I've been watching the second season of So You Think You Can dance and it's such guilty entertainment. The formula for this type of programming dictates the first few episodes to dehumanize the contestants into performance monkeys and though, secretly, in the itty-bittiest parts of your heart, you applaud their courage, self-confidence and perseverance, you mainly laugh at them for how clueless they are.
Then there are also the fakers, hired guns or exposure seekers, who clearly are fakers, but nevertheless entertaining.
Some things you can't script. My favourite scene was a midget who, when asked how long he's been dancing, said "Ever since I was little."
But back to the clueless people. One thing wrong with being cute is that no one will have the heart to tell you how bad a dancer you are. That's what happened to this girl. I cut out the scene of her dancing on stage because I'm cruel, and I thought immediately juxtaposing her exuberance and disappointment would be more nifty.
Here was a cool breakdancer.
So here I am halfway across the world, and I am taking full advantage of that by watching tv shows in my dark room. Don't even get me started about 24. I've got some words with that show! Just started watching Canada's Next Top Model too.
